National Aviary: A World of Birds Under One Roof Guide
Escape to a vibrant world of feathered friends at the National Aviary, America's only independent indoor nonprofit aviary. Home to over 500 birds representing more than 150 species from around the globe, the Aviary offers an immersive and educational experience for visitors of all ages. From colorful parrots to majestic eagles, you'll encounter a diverse array of avian wonders in beautifully designed habitats. Founded in 1952 as the Pittsburgh Aviary, it has evolved into a leading institution dedicated to avian conservation, education, and research. The Aviary plays a crucial role in protecting endangered bird species and promoting awareness of the importance of biodiversity. Its commitment to conservation extends beyond its walls, with partnerships and programs around the world. Wander through the Aviary's various habitats, including the Tropical Rainforest, the Grasslands, and the Wetlands. Observe the birds up close, learn about their unique behaviors and adaptations, and even participate in interactive feeding experiences. Don't miss the daily bird shows, where you can witness the incredible intelligence and agility of these amazing creatures. The Aviary also offers educational programs for children and adults, as well as special events throughout the year. While the Aviary doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, the nearby Allegheny Commons Park provides a lovely setting for a picnic lunch.
